Washington School Science Fair
Register to participate by February 8.
To register for the science fair, use this online form. You will receive more information later about your assigned project number and what to do on Science Fair Day. The registration deadline is February 8.
Projects should be student driven.
Project ideas should come from the students, and the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young kids, parents may provide some guidance, but it is important the kids be able to call the project their own.
Need help choosing a topic and doing the project?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic. Here is a Step-by-Step Guide for doing your project.
We are a Latex Free School!
Since Washington is a Latex Free School, please do not bring latex balloons, latex gloves, or other latex products to the school on the day of the fair. If you use them in your project, you may take pictures and use them as part of your display.
Volunteers needed!
A big event like the science fair wouldn't be possible without the help of volunteers. We have many jobs to be done, so if you can spare an hour or two on the day of the fair, Wednesday, February 28, we would love your help. Please indicate your availability on the registration form or contact the science fair coordinators Jennifer Stephenson and Kristy Perry, at jestephenson.pta@gmail.com. Thank you!
Review Forms
Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their project to a reviewer for feedback. Please use the following review form to prepare for your presentation. Click here for review form
Tri-Fold Display Board
Many students find it helpful to use a tri-fold display board for their project. You can purchase one at Wal-Mart, Target, and other retailers. (If you are in need of financial assistance, please email the science fair coordinators.) Remember to make your display organized, interesting, and appealing. Even if you're not doing an "experiment", it may be helpful to use the "Scientific Method" to organize your project, by listing the purpose, expected outcome, materials, procedure, results, analysis, and conclusion.
